Ottawa – December 12, 2023 – The CCES commends Minister Qualtrough on her announcement setting out the way towards a better future for sport in Canada. The establishment of an independent Commission led by a legal expert supported by a trauma-informed expert and a sport system expert will allow root causes of the harms that have occurred in sport to surface and forward-looking solutions to protect athletes and other participants to be identified.
The CCES supports the additional initiatives that were also announced as we believe that each will facilitate immediate and meaningful action being taken to improve the current system while the Commission undertakes its work. We look forward to supporting the work of the Commission and the other initiatives to help make sport a more fair, safe, inclusive and accessible experience for all in Canada.
