The CCES Completes Final Phase of 2021 World Anti-Doping Code Review

(Ottawa, Ontario – March 14, 2019) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) has submitted feedback to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on the second draft of the 2021 Code and the International Standards. This marks the end of the third and final phase of consultation for the development of the 2021 Code and the second phase for the International Standards.

The CCES commends WADA on the recent drafts of the 2021 Code and four International Standards and is supportive of the majority of changes. The following comments were submitted to WADA:

Introduced in December 2018, the new International Standard for Results Management will undergo a second round of consultation beginning late May 2019 following WADA’s Board and Executive Committee meetings. It will come into effect in 2021.

During this phase of the review, the CCES did not have comments about the new Anti-Doping Charter of Athlete Rights, International Standard for Compliance by Code Signatories (ISCCS), International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) and the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information (ISPPPI).

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the drafts and continues to participate in the fight against doping. The anticipated Code changes were highlighted to the sport community during ongoing meetings with organizations who have adopted the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP) and during a webinar that is now available online.

The World Anti-Doping Code (The Code)

The Code is the core document that harmonizes anti-doping policies, rules and regulations across sport organizations and public authorities around the world. It is a living document that is reviewed through a consultation process every six years. The Code works in conjunction with the six International Standards aimed at bringing harmonization among anti-doping organizations in various technical areas.
