The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport Welcomes the Government of Canada’s Stable Record Level of Support for Sport

(Ottawa, ON – February 12, 2014) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) welcomes the 2014 federal budget for its maintenance of funding for sport and its recognition and commitment to the value that sport brings to Canadians and our communities.

“Beginning in 2015-16, Economic Action Plan 2014 proposes to dedicate ongoing funding of $23 million per year for the Sport Support Program,” the budget document reads.

“We believe good sport can instill character in our children, strengthen our communities and increase our opportunities for excellence,” said Paul Melia, President and CEO of the CCES. “Throughout the year, we know how sport contributes to overall health and during these exciting Olympic and Paralympic Games, it connects Canadians as we watch our high-performance athletes strive for excellence.”

Through Sport Canada, the Federal Government provides annual funding support to the CCES to manage the Canadian Anti-Doping Program which includes athlete education, athlete services, sample collection, and results management.
